Français 2
FRENCH 2 continues the work of French 1 and is open to students who have completed it. The course is built around communication rather than memorization: students spend class time listening to, reading, and telling stories in French rather than working through vocabulary lists and verb charts. Class is conducted almost entirely in French at a level students can understand. Where French 1 asked students mainly to understand, French 2 asks them to produce as well — to retell, summarize, rewrite a story from a new perspective, and give an opinion in simple French.
Over the year we will work through Units 5–11 of the Nous Sommes 1 curriculum, each built around a small set of high-frequency structures and a story or cultural theme. The year moves into new grammatical territory — pronouns, two-verb constructions, and common idiomatic expressions — and travels from the Tour de France to the kitchens of France and Québec to the folklore of Francophone Louisiana. Students can expect to finish French 2 at roughly the Novice High to Intermediate Low proficiency level.
Unité 5 — « Le Tour de France » (family, emotions, and cycling)
Unité 6 — « Assieds-toi ! » (the body and giving commands)
Unité 7 — « La motocrotte » (obligation, ability, and helping others)
Unité 8 — « La cuisine française » (food and French food culture)
Unité 9 — « Le loup-garou » (fear and Louisiana folklore)
Unité 10 — « Le loup qui a faim » (hunger and emotions)
Unité 11 — « On joue ! » (sports, hobbies, and interests)
Please have all of this by the end of the first week:
A notebook or composition book used ONLY for French.
Either is fine, wide or college ruled — but it must be dedicated to this class alone, not a section of a notebook you share with another course.A folder for this class (or a dedicated section of a binder, if you are a binder person).
A black or blue pen, and a pencil.
A red pen or another contrasting color — for corrections.
Plenty of blank note-cards for vocabulary.
Your charged device, every day. We will not be using computers very often, however, you need it to be charged in the chance we do.
Additionally, if you could bring in 1 box of tissues and 1 roll of paper towel for our classroom, it would be greatly appreciated.
If you are not able to get any of these, come and see me privately by the end of the first week and we will find a solution.
